That's a very pragmatic approach. Nothing about the imbalances, gaps, or general worthlessness of the system? I hear a lot about those. Frankly, I usually agree.

I suppose I could go on about the violence inherent in the system of an otherwise overall pleasant spaceship purgatory prison to someone who was desperate enough to agree to the Admiral's offer. But would that change anything?

Probably not, but some people seem to get something out of talking about it.

I can see how they might. I'd just have to work to keep a straight face. I do hate it here, just so you don't go around trying to ruin my cred, but it's nothing new or special.

I hate not know what happened to my friends. So. Probably not.

That does sound beyond the purview of my interfering questions, yes. Have you any plans to figure it out? I've known people with dramatically long term goals here and some who are allergic to the idea.

At no time in my life have I had a long term goal, and none of my deaths have changed that. Exist until I don't, I suppose.

I can't say I don't see the appeal, but the habit seems less than compatible with seeing the problem solved.

Generally, I think most people agree it can't be said to really solve any problem. More avoiding solving anything, if we want to get technical. But do you mean some specific problem?

The trouble of not knowing what happened to your friends. Not really within the limits of the barge, let alone a warden, but something you could look into once you wrapped up here with relative ease.

Oh, that one. I've thought about it, but there's the problem of graduation being extremely unlikely. Anyway, how I see it is either they're dead, in which case there's no point in existing or they're fine.

Oh, if it's two wholly dichotomous positions with mutually exclusive implications, you're fine, carry on.

I mean, I definitely have no problem doing that. But I'd say in this case it has the same implications. Well, same result, anyway.

I'm afraid feeling strongly enough to hate not knowing what became of them rather tips your hand. Either way you know. And in the event that they're fine, wouldn't they be pleased to have you back?

It’s the being fine part that’s more of a problem, really. Anyway, I’m pretty sure they’d be happy to see me. But they could survive my death, you know?
